Mississippi Man Claims “People Walked Out of the Clouds” After Tornado

Angels on high…

After a recent tornado in Mississippi, a local news station may have captured more than intended in their story about the destruction. As this man is recording the story on his home television, he notices something very odd in the corner of the screen—giant shadowy figures walking among the clouds.

The footage understandably went viral, with people wondering what kind of miracle they were witnessing. Were they really angels, looking down on Earth to offer comfort and help during this time of troubles? Or was there something else afoot? Let’s investigate.

No one is going to say this video is of particularly high quality. He’s just filming the TV screen with what is likely his phone camera. Indeed, several viewers are quick to point out that the screen itself is dirty, spattered with some unknown material.

But he zooms in on the corner of the screen and there—without any ambiguity, are giant, shadowy humanoid figures, stranding across the surface of the clouds.

The easiest explanation—though of course, not the simplest—is that what you see is indeed what you get, and this news station captured actual footage of angels in the heavens. But there are other possibilities, too.

The simplest is that this is just an optical illusion, a reflection on the lens of the news camera due to some kind of impurity, scratch, or fleck of water. The people pictures are not actually in the clouds, they are on the ground, just off-screen and appearing in the image because of an issue with the camera lens.

There are other optical illusions that can create the images of massive beings in the cloud. The famous Brocken Spectre, for example, is a German phenomenon often seen on a particular mountain peak, where hikers can position themselves between the sun and low-lying clouds, and thus project massive, iridescent shadows of themselves on the land below.

Naturally, the images in this video are being taken from the ground, but it does not mean that we’re not still witnessing some kind of optical illusions caused by debris or water on the lens of the camera—understandable, given the tornado’s destruction.

Alternately, there are angels among us.
