Update: Hijack Threat at Athens Airport a Hoax
Greek authorities said on Friday that the threat of possible hijackings of airliners flying from London to the Greek capital was a hoax.
Earlier, security services were on alert after receiving a phone call warning of possible hijackings of airliners flying from London to the Greek capital.
Three flights from London which landed at Athens’ Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport were directed to an isolated section of the airfield.
The three planes were evacuated and police officers inspected them with sniffer dogs.
The call was made to a shop inside the airport, and security was immediately alerted.
Due to tight security measures, flights arriving and departing will experience delays.
