Erdogan states that Greece has “gone crazy” over not being invited to the Berlin conference on Libya
Ahead of today’s Berlin conference on Libya, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that Greece has “gone crazy” over not being invited to the meeting.
He further added that Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is taking “the wrong steps” by inviting Libya’s renegade General Khalifa Haftar for talks in Athens, which in turn has taken a wrong tack in bilateral relations with Turkey.
In response to Erdogan’s comments, Greece’s Foreign Ministry responded that “as for taking the right steps, it is at least paradoxical, that the habitual violator of international law in our region tries to give lessons.”
“A constant concern for Greece is taking the staps that ensure security and stability in the region and not policymaking through groundless and provocative remarks,” the Foreign Ministry added.
Mitsotakis has previously expressed that Athens will veto any agreement brought before the European Union for approval, unless the summit explicitly denounces the deal between the Libyan government and Turkey delineating maritime borders between the two non-neighboring countries in the Mediterranean.
