Turkish Analysts: Greece’s “Achilles Shield” Deal Makes It Complicit with Israel
GNOD comments; With regards to the Greek government tolerating the crimes of Israel against the Palestinians as well as…GREEK ORTHODOX populations around the Middle East (Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, etc.), the Turks here are right. HOWEVER, they’re ones to talk given their own…CRIMES against Greece and other nations which they, STILL, DO NOT ADMITT OR OWN UP TO–and the whole world knows it!!!
The Greece–Israel “Achilles Shield” agreement is aimed at Turkey, Turkish media claim, describing the deal as “insidious.”
Turkish media have targeted the Greece–Israel agreement on the “Achilles Shield,” with Ankara trying to portray the new air-defense system as having an offensive purpose against Turkey.
On a television program, the presenter of the Turkish network Haber Global referred to the Athens–Tel Aviv deal, arguing that the system will strengthen Greece’s anti-aircraft capabilities against possible threats she said come from Turkey and Iran.
She linked the agreement to Greece’s broader plan to create a multi-layered air-defense and anti-missile architecture, while asking what the “real target” of Greece–Israel cooperation is.
“The fact that Greece is cooperating with Israel means that specific weapons systems will be installed in Greece and that air-defense systems will be developed. For what reason is all this?” she said.

A military analyst who appeared on the program then called the development an “insidious design” and tried to explain what he described as the operational planning behind the “Achilles Shield.”
“We need to examine how technically feasible all this is and go a little deeper into the details,” he said.
According to his assessment, the plan provides for the deployment of anti-aircraft missiles at specific points in Cyprus and in the Aegean.
He claimed that in the event of a future conflict with Turkey, these systems could protect against air and sea threats.
“According to their planning, the goal is to place anti-aircraft missiles at specific points both in Cyprus” and the Aegean Sea, “so that, in the event of a possible future attack against Turkey, there will be anti-aircraft protection against threats coming from the air and from the sea,” he said.
He concluded by attributing this intention directly to Greece and Israel: “Let me say it clearly: this is their intention.”
“Israel wants a dominant role in the Eastern Mediterranean – it is trying to make Greece an accomplice”
Turkish media references to the Greece–Israel “Achilles Shield” agreement continue, with Turkish analysts trying to place the two countries’ defense cooperation in a broader Israeli geopolitical design in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Speaking on a Turkish television network, retired colonel Çağlar Özer first argued that Greece is “spending money pointlessly,” commenting on the decision to strengthen Greek air defense.
Referring to the name “Achilles Shield,” he claimed the choice is not accidental and that it seeks to give the Greece–Israel agreement, in cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus, a historical and symbolic character.
He then linked the defense cooperation to developments in the Middle East and Israel’s role in the region.
Israel, he said, is now looking for new partners in the region because, in his view, it faces a “Turkish wall.”
“Israel wants to acquire a dominant role in the Eastern Mediterranean and, in the long term, to get its hands on the energy resources of the region,” he said.
He claimed Israel is seeking to extend its influence toward the Eastern Mediterranean, drawing a parallel with its presence and moves in Syria, the Golan Heights, and southern Lebanon.
In that context, he directly tied cooperation with Greece and the “Achilles Shield” to Israeli strategy.
“If Israel pursues something like that, then it will try in some way to make Greece an accomplice in this genocide as well and to create an alliance with it,” he argued, referring to Israeli operations in Gaza.
