Trump Admin Claims “Phase 2” of Gaza “Ceasefire” Has Begun
On January 14, 2026, the Trump administration officially announced the launch of Phase Two of its 20-point plan to end the conflict in Gaza.
The announcement was made by U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, who stated the focus will now shift from a simple ceasefire to “demilitarization, technocratic governance, and reconstruction”.
A transitional 15-member Palestinian technocratic body will be established to manage daily affairs and public services for the 2 million residents of the enclave. The committee is expected to be led by Ali Shaath, a former Palestinian deputy minister for planning.
The NCAG will operate under the oversight of an international “Board of Peace” chaired by President Donald Trump. Other expected members include leaders from Germany, Italy, Egypt, the UAE, and Qatar.
A primary goal of this phase is the “full demilitarization” of Gaza, specifically targeting the disarmament of Hamas and the Palestinian resistance factions.
