With a photo of him in front of the offices of Koumoundourou (SYRIZA’s headquarters), the British financial newspaper refers to the former professional path of the new SYRIZA president
Stefanos Kasselakis’ surprise victory in the SYRIZA intra-party battle, just 27 days after his appearance in the leadership race, made the front page of Tuesday’s Financial Times.
With a photo of him from the panels in front of Koumoundourou’s offices, the British financial newspaper headlines the issue “From Goldman to the leadership of SYRIZA”, referring to Mr. Kasselakis’ previous career path.
“Kasselakis took more than 56% to succeed former prime minister Alexis Tsipras as head of the radical Left party that came close to taking Greece out of the eurozone a decade ago,” reads the FT’s accompanying commentary.
“A former Goldman Sachs executive who made his fortune in shipping in Miami, Kasselakis came out first having appeared only a few weeks before and surprising political analysts and party insiders,” the newspaper adds.
“U.S.-based until recently and virtually zero political experience on a resume that included a career in finance, the 35-year-old ran a social media-based campaign to outbid three former SYRIZA ministers for the presidency,” it said.
