Child clinging to inflatable unicorn rescued off the coast of Greece
A child who was found floating into the sea on an inflatable unicorn was rescued off the coast of Greece Monday, according to media reports and video.
In a moment when the girl, who is about 4-years-old, briefly lost her parents’ attention, she was quickly swept away into the Gulf of Corith aboard the unicorn buoy. Greek City Times reported the child was over 1600 feet from shore near the town of Antirrio by the time she was rescued.
According to the New York Times, the toddler was saved by crew members of a 331-foot-long ferry and then reunited with her family, shortly after the captain of the ship spotted her in nearby water.
The rescue was captured on video, including a post shared by passenger Petros Kritsonis on Facebook.
This isn’t the first time someone has found themselves stranded on an inflatable unicorn .
In 2019, WNCT9 reported that an 8-year-old boy was rescued after drifting away from the North Carolina coast on a unicorn-shaped raft.
In 2018, a group of women in Minnesota were also saved from a similar flotation device.
“Yes a rainbow unicorn,” wrote the local Sheriff’s Office on Twitter. “With a handful of laughs and some mad rescue roping skills [the women] were pulled back to the dock! #wherestheglitter“
