Justice Department Request to Immediately Block Bolton Book Is Denied
Judge rules the book is already widely publicized, but says ‘Bolton likely published classified materials. The government is likely to succeed on the merits.’
“This was Bolton’s bet: If he is right and the book does not contain classified information, he [gains publicity and sales]; but if he is wrong, he stands to lose his profits from the book deal, exposes himself to criminal liability, and imperils national security,” Judge Lamberth said, adding: “Bolton was wrong.”
The ruling only addressed the government’s emergency request for an injunction, and the underlying lawsuit will continue. The Justice Department is also examining whether Mr. Bolton’s actions amount to a crime, the Journal has reported.
