Greece Shuts Down All Hotels in Latest Coronavirus Emergency Measure

The Greek Ministry of Tourism announced on Thursday afternoon that all hotels which operate on a 12-month basis will be forced to shut down until April 30.

This move comes as the country’s latest measure to combat the spread of the covid-19 coronavirus.

The decision, however, also makes provisions that every capital in Greece’s regional units  will still have to have one open hotel, while three hotels will remain open in the cities of Athens and Thessaloniki.

The decision will come into force on March 23, 2020 at 00:00 EET.

Special provisions will be taken for hotels in Thrace and the islands, where armed forces and Frontex staff is currently accommodated in.

The hotels which will remain open in Athens, Thessaloniki and the capitals of the regional units, will be decided by the local hotel associations.
