At Least 12 Killed, Including Deputy, in Mass Shooting at California Bar; Suspected Gunman Also Dead
THOUSAND OAKS, Ca. — A gunman burst into a packed bar in Southern California and opened fire on people line dancing, killing at least 12 before he was found dead at the scene, authorities said.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Helus was among those killed Wednesday night at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, authorities said.
Helus had been at the department for nearly three decades and was planning to retire within the next year, Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said, choking back tears….
